How to Check the Engine Cooling Fan

In this video, see how to check a mechanical cooling fan; start by inspecting the fan drive belt, which should be replaced if it is dirty with grease or shows signs of wear that may indicate it could break soon. Check the tension of the fan drive belt and the condition of the tensioner pulley, as well as the cooling fan bearing. Once the engine is off, rotate the fan by hand; it should move smoothly. If you notice any rotational issues, you may need to replace some bearings or the entire fan assembly. If there is some play, tighten the belt, check the viscous coupling of the fan, then turn the fan blades, which should show no resistance. Before starting diagnostics on the electric fan, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery; check for any fuse or relay issues, then inspect the fan wiring and the temperature sensor - start the engine and check if the fan turns on - if it does not, the sensor must be replaced, but first check the connectors.
