The engine cooling fan is located at the front of the vehicle and pulls (or pushes) air towards the engine; when the engine reaches about 90/92°C, the fan activates and cools the radiator water. It also serves the air conditioning system, activating at around 40/50°C, even in the middle of winter.

On Diesel engines, the fan also cools the DPF, the diesel particulate filter located very close to the engine, which can easily reach 500°C. When the DPF is undergoing regeneration, the fan activates to cool the components, especially the plastic ones, to prevent the risk of fire due to the high temperatures.
