What is the purpose of the oil-water heat exchanger? It serves the same function as the engine cooling radiator, which is why it is also called an oil radiator. The difference is that in one case, air cools the water circulating in the engine, while in the other, oil is cooled by water at a lower temperature. The need for an oil-water heat exchanger in the engine arises from several factors: a smaller amount of lubricant, manufacturing tolerances, increased performance, and smaller engine sizes. The combination of these factors has led to the adoption of the oil radiator in many cases to lower engine temperature more easily.
