Operation: What is the purpose of the heat exchanger in a car?

In our car, we have a plate heat exchanger. It is used to dissipate heat in the hottest points of our engine; in fact, on one side of its plates, the engine oil passes through, and on the other side, the water flows, which then goes into the radiator and disperses the heat there. In this way, the oil cools down, doesn't burn, and prevents the engine from overheating. This component is mainly installed in turbo-diesel engines due to their high compression ratios, or in highly powerful turbocharged gasoline engines. On the other hand, in winter, it helps to warm up the engine oil because the water heats up before the oil. If it breaks, water and oil mix, and there is a risk of suspecting a blown head gasket.
