How do the airbags in our car work?
Model: (Various brands) Various
In this video we can see how the airbags of our car work: we see them exploding inside a car, a situation in which we would never want to find ourselves in person. Then we see them as they are before the accident. But how do they work, specifically? They are airbag balloons, inserted in certain points of the car, like the steering wheel, for example. They are connected to sensors, which detect sudden and abrupt deceleration, and to a control unit that sends the signal to a detonator, which in turn starts the decomposition reaction of "sodium azide into metallic sodium and molecular nitrogen". The nitrogen allows the airbag to inflate in just 40 milliseconds.

First, remove the chrome trim (if present) around the ignition switch by prying it off with a screwdriver (preferably something soft to avoid damaging the dashboard). Next, remove the plastic trim around the gauge cluster where the tachometer and speedometer are located, as well as the rectangular plastic trim surrounding the steering wheel. Simply unclip it. Now, press and push the ignition switch to release it from the housing, and you're done! by ScegliAuto More videos
