How do you adjust the handbrake of the Volkswagen Polo?

The handbrake adjustment of the Volkswagen Polo can be done by levering with an object to detach the cover of the central tunnel, located just behind the handbrake: once this panel is removed, the handbrake actuation mechanism to be adjusted can be identified. By tightening the bolt in question, it will be possible to make the handbrake lever heavier and reduce its travel; conversely, by loosening the bolt, the handbrake can be made lighter and its travel reduced.
