Let's see how to replace the thermostat on a Volkswagen Golf VII 1.6 TDI: we need to partially drain the cooling system, placing a container under the radiator, and open the cap on the expansion tank (to avoid creating a vacuum). Screw in the screws and insert the pipes. Reconnect all the disassembled pieces, top up the coolant to the maximum level, start the engine at idle without closing the cap of the expansion tank, accelerate slightly to help circulation and release air, then top up to maintain the maximum level. Close the cap when the level has stabilized.
