To replace the starter motor on a Volkswagen Transporter T5, first obtain a new part from eBay using the code 168484704244 at a price of £69.36, with free delivery. First, disconnect the battery for safety. The starter motor is located on the left side of the engine, beneath the intake manifold. To access it, remove the lower cover and, if necessary, the intercooler pipe. The motor is secured with two bolts: one upper (accessible from above after removing the cover) and one lower (from underneath). Use a 13 mm socket and an extension. Disconnect the electrical connector (by pressing the latch) and the red power cable. Before inserting the new starter motor, ensure the replacement number is correct (for 2.0 TDI). Install the new motor, starting with the upper bolt, then the lower one. Reconnect the connector and the red cable, ensuring it clicks into place. Tighten the bolts, remount the covers, and reconnect the battery. Start the engine to verify.
