How to Change the Alternator on a Volkswagen Golf V

To replace the alternator on a Volkswagen Golf V 1.9 TDI, first disconnect the battery (for safety). Remove the engine cover to access the alternator. Disconnect the intercooler pipe in the middle using a hose clamp pliers and a screwdriver. To loosen the belt, use a 16 mm spanner and a locking tool to hold the tensioner. Release the tension and slide off the belt. Disconnect the electrical connector and the power cable (with a 13 mm spanner). Unscrew the two bolts securing the alternator (one at the top, one at the bottom) with a 13 mm spanner and ratchet. Remove the old alternator and install the new one, which you can find on Amazon with code B00605808S for £114.96 with free delivery. Reassemble the bolts, reconnect the cables and the belt, then reposition the pipe and the battery. Start the engine to check.
