How to remove the central locking mechanism on a VW Touareg? Before starting disassembly, disconnect the battery terminals located in the engine compartment. Using a lever, remove the handle cover, then unscrew the screws with a screwdriver located in the same. Unscrew the remaining screws on the door panel and detach the securing clips, disconnect the power connectors for the window lifter and the tension cable for the door opening lever. Remove the panel and lever it off from the door. Remove the adhesive covering from the door metal and unscrew the central locking mechanism from the door with all attached parts. Remove the locking mechanism and install the new piece.
