Rear Shock Absorber Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Jetta A4, MK 4 - Years 1998-2005

Lift the vehicle onto a hydraulic lift, remove the wheels, and then detach the mounting bolts of the shock absorber from both the suspension arm and the chassis. A bench test will quickly reveal that the shock absorber piston moves too freely, indicating a worn suspension. Unscrew the mounting bolt of the shock absorber support to attach it to the new one, complete with a protective boot: if the support appears worn, it is advisable to replace it with a new one. Install the new shock absorber on the vehicle by tightening the respective mounting bolts.
