Rear Shock Absorber Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Jetta MK 3, A3 - Years 1991-1998

Lift the vehicle on a ramp or on suitable axle stands and remove the rear wheel to access the shock absorber; then, access the cabin and fold down the backrests of the rear seats to reach the nut securing the shock absorber stem to the body. Once the nut is unscrewed, move on to the shock absorber mounting bolt on the rear axle and remove the shock absorber from its housing. At this point, remove the shock absorber support (it is not necessary to use clamps to compress the spring) to extract the spring and fit it onto the new shock absorber, also replacing the support rubber. Then proceed in reverse for the installation back onto the vehicle.
