Replacing the Gear Cable Bush

Model: Volkswagen Maggiolino MK 1 - Years 1938-1980

Start by removing the seats and the central tunnel cover to facilitate access to the gear lever, also removing the gear lever's gaiter; at this point, the fixing pins of the gear lever support are visible and must be unscrewed: this allows you to remove the gear lever and access the gear cable guide bush. To remove the old bush, disconnect the gear cable from the rear, just at the end of the tunnel, right in the centre of the rear seat backrest: now slide the cable forward to free the bush seat, extract the old bush and insert the new one, remembering to apply the retaining ring. Push the cable back and reassemble everything, applying plenty of grease. At the end of the installation, the gear lever should be well guided and free of play.
