Wheel Bearing Replacement

This video shows how to replace the wheel bearing on a Volkswagen Beetle. Lift the car on a ramp and remove the wheel corresponding to the bearing to be replaced. Use a hammer and chisel to strike multiple points on the cap covering the hub until it is extracted. Loosen the non-standard hub nut with a 5 mm Allen key and remove it. Take off the brake disc and place it on a piece of cardboard. Use a wooden wedge as a chisel and repeatedly strike the centre of the disc to extract the hub. Clean the grease from the hub seat using a cloth. Elevate the disc on two wooden wedges and use a small chisel and hammer to extract the outer ring of the bearing. Using the same technique, but with the tip of a flat screwdriver, extract the other ring. Now take the new bearing kit and gently tap the first ring into place with a small hammer. Next, take the bearing installation kit, select the correct diameter ring, and use it to insert the inner ring of the bearing. Repeat the same operation for the other ring. Now grease the inner bearing with your fingers so that the grease penetrates its gaps, and apply some grease to the housing where you will place it. Insert the bearing and place a new seal on top. Use the previous ring to properly insert the bearing and seal. Refit the disc and insert the outer bearing (also greased). Reassemble the parts covering the hub and reposition the wheel as before.
