How to Replace the Ignition Coil on a Volkswagen Polo IV

Here’s how to replace the ignition coil on a Volkswagen Polo IV. Disconnect the breather hose from the oil sump and lift the flexible hose from the engine block. Loosen the screws of the engine cover. Using a Torx T30 socket, remove the engine cover, then loosen the locking clips of the ignition coil connector. Using a flat screwdriver, lift the ignition coil. With a coil puller, remove the ignition coil from the spark plug housing, then disconnect the connector. Treat the tip of the coil with high-temperature grease. To protect the contacts from corrosion, apply a small amount of dielectric grease (silicone grease) to the connector. Then connect the ignition coil connector and install it firmly in the spark plug housing; you should hear a "click" when it is securely installed, then close the connector. Now, reattach the engine cover and secure it with the Torx T30 socket. Reconnect the breather hose from the oil sump and the job is complete.
