Instructions for Gearbox Oil Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005
Part: Transmission fluid

Replacing the gearbox oil is not a maintenance task that is generally considered, but running the gears in clean oil at maximum viscosity is certainly beneficial. Position the vehicle on suitable car stands, remove the plastic cover under the engine bay, and locate the drain plug (at the bottom) and the fill plug (located at the front) on the gearbox. Unscrew both plugs to facilitate drainage, then screw in the fill plug and refill the gearbox with new oil: the level is reached as soon as the oil begins to overflow from the fill plug.
