Replacement of Shock Absorber Mount

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

If you hear a creaking noise coming from the engine bay, especially when steering, it is likely due to wear on the shock absorber mount. To replace it, lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel; then disconnect the drop link from the suspension arm, detach the brake line and unscrew the fixing bolts of the shock absorber to extract it from the mount; access the engine bay to complete the removal by unscrewing the nuts securing the shock absorber mount to the body shell; once the shock absorber is removed, compress the spring with appropriate clamps, remove the upper mount from the shaft to fit the new one; once the mount is secured, release the spring and proceed in reverse for installation.
