Volkswagen Golf - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 4, Golf IV, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003
Part: Suspensions
Operation: Shock absorber support replacement

If you hear a squeak coming from the engine compartment, especially when turning, it is likely that the shock absorber support is worn. To be able to replace it, lift the car on a lift and remove the front wheel; then disconnect the connecting rod from the swinging arm of the suspension, unhook the brake oil pipe and unscrew the pins fixing the shock absorber to the hub support so that it can be extracted from the support itself; access the engine compartment to complete the disassembly by unscrewing the fixing nuts of the shock absorber support to the bodywork dome; once the shock absorber has been extracted, compact the spring with the special clamps, remove the upper support from the stem in order to insert the new one; once the support is fixed, release the spring and proceed in reverse to install.
