Replacement of Front Shock Absorber Support Strut on VW Golf 3

If you hear a squeaking noise from the engine bay that intensifies while driving on uneven surfaces, it is likely that the front shock absorber support struts are damaged. These are essentially rubber bushes located between the plate that holds the shock absorber spring and the body shell. To replace these components, lift the vehicle, remove the front wheel, take off the bracket that acts as a cable pass-through, and unscrew the two bolts that secure the shock absorber to the hub support. At this point, lower the vehicle and access the engine bay to unscrew the nut that secures the shock absorber shaft to the body shell. Now, extract the shock absorber from its seat, remove the old rubber bush, and fit the new one, reversing the steps for installation.
