Volkswagen Golf - Video tutorial
Model: Volkswagen Golf
Golf 3, Golf III, MK 3
- Years 1991-1997 If you hear a squeak coming from the engine compartment that becomes accentuated when running on the bumpy, then it is likely that the uprights of the front shock absorber supports may have been damaged: these are basically rubber bushings interposed between the plate that holds in place the shock absorber spring and the bodywork dome; to replace these elements, the car must be lifted, the front wheel removed, the bracket that acts as a cable gland must be removed and the two pins that secure the shock absorber to the hub support must be unscrewed; at this point, lower the car and access the engine compartment to unscrew the nut that fixes the shock absorber stem to the bodywork dome; at this point, extract the shock absorber from its seat, remove the old rubber and apply the new one, proceeding backwards for installation.
