How to Replace Engine Oil and the Oil Filter

Here is a video illustrating how to replace the engine oil and filter on a Volvo S40 (the same procedure applies to the Volvo V40). First, remove the sump plug with a ratchet spanner. Drain the old oil into a collection tray. Replace the sump plug and, if possible, use a new washer. To unscrew the filter plug (located under the vehicle), you will need a ratchet spanner, an extension, and a special cup tool. Once the plug is unscrewed and the oil collected in a container, fit a new filter and a new gasket (after lightly oiling it with some new oil) and then reposition and re-tighten the filter in its housing. As a final step, pour new engine oil into the sump!
