Replacing Steering Tie Rod Ends

Wear of the tie rod ends in the steering box is a common issue that manifests not only as play in the steering but also with noise. Replacing the tie rod ends is very simple and economical. Lift the vehicle on a lift and remove the front wheel. Then, unscrew the nut that secures the tie rod end to the hub support while keeping the hinge axis in place. Before removing the tie rod end, loosen the lock nut of the tie rod itself. Then, extract the tie rod end and unscrew it, counting the number of turns. Screw in the new one with the same number of turns, insert and secure the tie rod end with the respective nut, and then tighten the lock nut. After installation, have the alignment checked.
