The timing chain of the BMW N57 engine does not have an official replacement interval but should be changed if it makes a metallic noise at startup, a camshaft or crankshaft sensor error is displayed, or if the chain shows insufficient stretch leading to inadequate tension. Today, we will explain how to replace the timing chain of the BMW N57. To perform the timing chain replacement, disconnect the battery and remove the engine mount to access the rear cover. After locking the timing, it is necessary to release the chain tensioner and remove the guides and chains using the complete kit with updated main and auxiliary chains and tensioners. During the chain replacement, it is important to also replace the gaskets. During reassembly, align the timing while maintaining the correct tension before locking the hydraulic tensioners. After closing the cover and reassembling the gearbox, manually rotate the crankshaft to check for any interference; to prevent chain stretch, it is important to use LL 0 4 oil.
