How to Replace the Hydraulic Motor for the Convertible Top on a BMW Z4

Model: BMW Z4 E85, E86 - Years 2002-2008

To begin, open the trunk. Start by removing the upper cover between the trunk and the convertible top housing. Once done, proceed to unscrew and remove all the bolts along the perimeter of the convertible top housing. At this point, move to the cabin. On the sides of the rear seats, there are two grilles that you will need to remove. Underneath each grille, there is one bolt that also needs to be unscrewed and removed. After that, remove the edges of the convertible top from their housing and disconnect the plug that operates it. Now you can remove the convertible top. Once you have finished removing the convertible top, you will have access to the hydraulic motor. You will need to disconnect the plugs connected to it. Once the plugs are disconnected, you will have successfully removed the hydraulic motor that operates the convertible top. To install the new hydraulic motor, simply follow the steps in reverse.
