Disassembling Center Console Components

Model: BMW Serie 3 E36 - Years 1990-2001

To disassemble some of the components of the center console, start with the shift knob: place the lever in neutral (N) and pull up on the knob to remove it from the lever; continue by detaching the trim at the base of the shift lever, the window switch buttons, and the parking light button; then, pull out the dashboard control console by prying along the edges and disconnecting the rear connectors, then remove the storage compartment underneath with the cigarette lighter and the stability control button; finally, unscrew the screws that secure the center console trim to the metal support and detach the trim itself.
