BMW Serie 3 - Video tutorial

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006
Part: Gearbox
Operation: Removing the automatic gearshift lever

To remove the automatic gearshift lever, start by extracting the gear lever knob by pulling it upwards; at this point unhook the frame at the base of the gear lever, disconnecting the relative sockets and removing the leather boot; then unscrew the fixing screws of the aluminum frame to which the glass lifting buttons are applied and unhook it by disconnecting the sockets from the buttons; remove the storage compartment at the base of the center console (under the climate control controls), remove the ash compartment by disconnecting the relative sockets; it is therefore possible to disassemble the lever by extracting the stop on the control rod and then unscrewing the fixing pins of the support plate of the lever itself; lift the plate complete with lever and disassemble the lateral plastic element by removing the relative fixing screws to free the wiring; finally remove the gasket at the base, unhook the cable that allows the engine to be started only when the lever is in the parking position and extract the pin that fixes the gear lever to the support plate and the one that connects it to the power cable transmission control.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
