To replace the water pump on a BMW 3 Series, loosen the screws that secure the cover on top of the engine block. Once this cover and the air filter housing are removed, you can access the front of the engine block.

The water pump is located here because the car has a longitudinal engine layout. By loosening the screws that hold it to the mounts and disconnecting the associated hoses, you can remove the old water pump and replace it with a new part.

After installation, reinstall the engine cover and the air filter housing.
