Replacing the Tensioner for the Serpentine Belt

Locate the position of the timing belt, which in this case is located just behind the radiator at the front of the engine compartment. Release tension on the belt using the appropriate wrench to rotate the tensioner clockwise.

Remove the belt. At this point, you can remove the tensioner.

To do this, unscrew the bolt that secures it in place and remove it from its housing. To install the new tensioner, perform the same steps in reverse order.

The vehicle shown in the maintenance operation is a BMW 3 Series.
