When the cigarette lighter socket in the BMW 1 Series stops working, the most common cause is a blown fuse. To replace the fuse yourself, remove the glove compartment on the driver's side and then use needle-nose pliers to extract the green 20 Amp fuse labelled RADIO. Once the fuse is removed, insert a new one and close the fuse box. If the problem persists, the cause may be a faulty internal connector or an issue with the control unit decoding messages, necessitating a computerised diagnosis.
