Replacing the Rear Tyre

Model: Citroen Ds - Years 1955-1975

The unique feature of this vehicle is that a jack is not needed to lift it!
Open the front bonnet and take out the spare wheel and the tools provided for tyre replacement.
To replace the rear tyre, first remove the rear wheel arch: using the provided spanner, unscrew the fastening bolt of the arch (located at the back of the arch, just above the light) and pull it backwards to remove it.
Then detach the chrome cap in the centre of the wheel rim covering the bolts by prying it off with a screwdriver; loosen the wheel nuts (without completely unscrewing them) before lifting the vehicle.
At this point, start the engine and operate the self-levelling lever to raise the suspension (as it has oleopneumatic suspension: each wheel has a steel sphere filled halfway with oil and halfway with nitrogen, separated by a membrane) adjusting it to the maximum height (there are actually 5 adjustment positions); apply the provided jack to the centre of the vehicle and lower the suspension, resting the vehicle on the jack and lifting the wheels off the ground.
Proceed with the tyre replacement using the provided rod for centring the wheel during installation.
Start the engine again to lift the vehicle and remove the jack, complete the tightening of the nuts, reapply the chrome cap, and remount the wheel arch.
