How to change the air filter in the Fiat 500

To replace the air filter on the Fiat 500, work with the engine cold, on a flat surface, and with the hood open. Locate the air filter box in the engine compartment: it is the plastic container with a top cover, connected to the intake hose. Before opening the box, check where the cover fasteners are (screws or clips). Loosen and remove all necessary fasteners, then lift the cover just enough to access the filter seat. If the intake hose restricts movement, ensure it is not under tension and gently move the cover without forcing any wiring or connections. With the cover lifted, pull the air filter out of its seat in a straight line. Before inserting the new filter, check the inside of the box: if you notice leaves or coarse dirt, remove it without pushing it toward the intake duct. Then insert the new filter in the same direction as the previous one, ensuring that the perimeter edge fits correctly to avoid unfiltered air passages. Close the cover by aligning it with the box and tightening the fasteners evenly. Finally, check that the cover is properly seated all around the perimeter and that the intake hose is correctly positioned, without any play or unusual bends. After the replacement, start the engine and check for any vibrations of the cover or unusual noises during intake.
