Ford Ecoboost Engine Codes for Models with Oil Bath Belt and Those with Chain

This video explains the engine codes within the same Ford model that distinguish oil bath belt distributions from chain ones. We will also discover where to find the engine codes for the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, and Ecosport.

Starting with the Fiesta: both the SFJ with 101 hp and the M1JL with 125 hp, as well as the YYJE with 140 hp, are equipped with an oil bath timing belt. The M1GM engine code with 125 hp, however, uses a chain.

Since 2019, the B7JA engine with 125 hp has a timing chain, as does the M0JB with 95 hp, while the SFJN and SFJP versions with 101 hp have the oil bath belt. The Hybrid versions of the Fiesta all have a chain transmission, with the B7JB at 125 hp and the BZJA at 155 hp. The Focus models prior to 2017 all have an oil bath belt, and the engine codes all start with M1; for models from 2018 onwards, the B7DA engine with 125 hp has a chain.

Again, the Hybrid versions with 125 and 155 hp are chain-driven, but the 100 hp version with the B3DA engine code has an oil bath belt. The Ford Puma uses the same engine codes as the Fiesta Hybrid at 125 and 155 hp, so it has a timing chain, including the 95 hp M0JA. The Ford Ecosport, however, is entirely equipped with an oil bath belt.
