How to Replace the Internal Handle of a Ford Ranger

See how to replace the front handle of a Ford Ranger; this is a common issue as the internal handle is attached to a fragile plastic support. Start with a trim removal tool to unclip the two clips of the speaker cover (at the top of the door panel), then remove the small cover behind the handle with a flat screwdriver, revealing a Torx T20 screw. Remove the 4 Phillips screws and use the trim removal tool to unclip the clips along the edges, starting from the bottom (lower the window before removing the panel). Disconnect the two connectors behind the handle and also the connectors for the courtesy light and window switch. At the back of the panel, remove the handle fixing pin, press the locking tab, and extract the pin. Remove the handle along with the return spring. Now you can fit the new handle, inserting the spring and positioning it on the panel: push the new pin until it clicks into place. Check that the handle returns correctly to position and reconnect all the electrical connectors, then reposition the door panel, hooking in the top clips first and then the side and bottom ones. Insert the 4 Phillips screws, reattach the handle cover, and the speaker cover. Do a final check and you're done.
