Instructions for Replacing the Alternator

Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004

Before proceeding to remove the alternator, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any shorts. The alternator is located on the timing belt side, at the rear, and to remove it, you must first take off the coolant reservoir and the power steering fluid reservoir. Then, slip off the auxiliary belt by loosening the tensioner, disconnect the cables, and unscrew the alternator mounting bolts to extract it from its housing. Install the new alternator (you can always opt for a refurbished one) after checking its compatibility (voltage, amperage, diameter, and number of grooves on the pulley).
