Replacement of Valve Stem Seals

Valve stem seals are essentially oil seals that allow the valves to slide in their seats without allowing oil to pass through, both on the intake and exhaust sides. When performing maintenance on the cylinder head, it is always advisable to replace them. Use a valve spring compressor to compress the valve return spring, remove the retaining clips from the spring seat, and extract the valve from its seat. Then, remove the old oil seal with a suitable extractor, clean and lubricate the seat with clean oil before inserting the new oil seal. Finally, refit the valve, securing the spring and the spring seat with the retaining clips.
