Removing Steering Tie Rod End

Model: Ford Mondeo / Fusion MK 1 - Years 1993-2000

To remove the ball joint attached to the end of the steering box's axial joint, raise the vehicle on suitable axle stands and remove the front wheel. Extract the safety pin from the nut securing the tie rod end to the hub support and undo the nut itself. Use a fork-type puller to remove the tie rod end from its seat (if this tool is unavailable, leave the nut threaded on a couple of turns and tap on it to extract the tie rod end). To complete the removal, loosen the lock nut behind the tie rod end and unscrew it, counting the number of turns to ensure the new one is fitted with the same number, minimising any change in alignment.

This way, you can check that the oil mark is between the minimum and maximum levels; finally, you can place the dipstick back in its tube.
