Removing the Timing Belt

The timing belt is one of the most worn parts in a car; failing to replace it when necessary can have serious repercussions on the engine's health. After many miles, it becomes essential to change it. To replace the timing belt, specific equipment is required. Always check for timing marks before removing the belt. Disconnect the battery and align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and timing cover. Then proceed to remove the front wheels, the pump, and the power steering belt, loosen the adjustment bolt, and then remove the air conditioning drive belt and the alternator belt. Remove the valve cover and the upper timing belt cover, then remove the engine mount and the power steering pump bracket, and proceed to remove the lower timing belt cover. Rotate the tensioner away from the timing belt and then remove it.
