The timing belt of the Hyundai Santa Fe should be replaced, according to what is written in the instruction manual, every 160,000km. This does not mean that the condition of the belt must always be checked and, if necessary, it must be replaced even earlier. To replace it we open the hood of the engine compartment. First of all we unscrew the bolts and remove the protective cover of the engine block. The belt is located to the left of the cylinder block. Using the appropriate key, we loosen the belt by acting on the tensioner and extract the old belt from its position. At this point we remove the protective cover of the timing belt and remove the tensioner that we have previously loosened. Remove the bolts from the other belt protection cover located in the lowest and most forward position (towards the windshield). Now we have to lift the car, remove the wheel corresponding to the side on which we work and, with the appropriate key, position the pulley of the belt (which is located behind the protective cover) in a synchronized position with the other pulley on the which passes the belt. Now disassemble the pulley, remove the protective cover. Disassemble the element that serves to hold the monobloc in position is the belt tensioner, paying attention to the synchronized positions of the pulleys. Replace the belt with the new one and reassemble everything following the opposite procedure. The maintenance operation that is performed in the images is carried out on a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe.
