Timing Belt Replacement

Model: Kia Rio DC, MK 1 - Years 2000-2005

Open the front bonnet and remove the plastic cover protecting the timing belt. Check for wear: if cracks are visible, it is essential to replace it. Lift the vehicle on suitable axle stands, remove the front right wheel and the inner plastic cover to access the crankshaft pulley, which must be removed by disconnecting the auxiliary belt that drives the water pump and alternator. To easily access the timing belt removal, you also need to remove the engine side support. Now rotate the crankshaft pulley to align the timing marks before removing the belt (remove the spark plugs to reduce compression and facilitate this operation).
Once the timing marks are aligned, loosen the tensioner and remove the timing belt without moving the pulleys. Install the new roller, tensioner, and new belt, ensuring it is correctly tensioned. Reassemble everything (it is advisable to also replace the auxiliary belt) in reverse order.
