Replacing the Central Bearing Supports of the Drive Shaft

To replace the bearing supports of the drive shaft, you must first lift the car with a jack or a lift. From underneath, begin by unscrewing and detaching the two flanges (front and rear) that connect the shaft to the respective differentials. Once the drive shaft is disconnected from the differentials, you can detach the two central supports. Get someone to help you if possible, as once you unscrew the last two screws of the support, you will be holding the entire weight of the drive shaft. Now, with the complete and dismantled shaft on the workbench, rotating the bearings inside the supports, you will hear the typical buzz of a worn bearing. When starting to dismantle the pieces, it is sometimes useful to mark them with a marker to avoid reassembling parts that can generate strange noises due to imbalance. Proceed to unscrew the screw inside the universal joint on the side of the central shaft with the supports. Once the screw is loosened, extract the plate and continue unscrewing the screw, giving a few taps on the support to slide it off the shaft. Unscrew and tap evenly on the support until it slides off, remembering which side is inner/outer. Now proceed in reverse, first placing the new washer to protect the bearing and then the support. To insert them onto the drive shaft casing, use a piece of pipe or a socket of the same diameter. Reinsert the drive shaft segment, insert the screw with the plate, and tighten fully. Repeat the same operation on the other side for the other support. Required tools: Pneumatic screwdriver/wrench.
