On the Mercedes E-Class, reset the automatic transmission by turning on the instrument cluster with the key in the ignition. Once the instrument cluster is on, press the accelerator pedal for at least thirty seconds.

Then, turn off the ignition and release the pedal. After this, wait about one minute before starting the car again.

At this point, once the engine is running, drive for about fifteen minutes to allow the transmission to readjust.
