How to Replace the Timing Chain on a Mercedes C-Class

To start this process, determine the firing order of your vehicle. This information may be engraved directly on the engine block (on the cylinder head, valve covers, or intake manifold) or found in the maintenance manual among the various specifications; it will be needed later to check the first cylinder. Disconnect the battery and the radiator hoses. Locate the timing diagram and release tension on the chain by compressing the spring. Remove the water pump heating hoses, then remove the water pump. Take off the timing chain cover by unscrewing it from the engine block and remove the chain by unscrewing the tension gears. To install the new one, it is advisable to lubricate everything.
