Instructions to Check Turbocharger Efficiency

If you hear a whistling noise coming from the engine compartment, especially during acceleration, it is likely a sign of a malfunctioning turbocharger. If the support bushings are worn, the turbine wheel may have play, causing its rotation to produce a sound similar to a whistle. To assess this play, disconnect the air intake hose and try to move the turbine shaft up and down or side to side. Additionally, check the free rotation of the shaft and inspect for any wear on the blades.
