It is common to use regular water to fill the engine cooling system, which generally leads to rust formation that can damage the radiator or water pump over time, not to mention the risk of freezing. It is therefore absolutely essential to use proper antifreeze that will eliminate the risk of freezing and keep the system clean; remove the splash guard from under the engine and unscrew the drain plug under the radiator to drain the fluid, then refill the system with the appropriate antifreeze.
