How to change the fuel filter on a Nissan Primastar (Renault Trafic/Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro)

First, let's get a new filter, which is generally the same for all three twin models (Nissan Primastar, Renault Trafic, Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro). We can find just the cartridge on Amazon with the code B006DHZ6MG for the price of €5.48, with free delivery for Prime customers. As a precaution, it’s best to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. The filter is located under the hood, on the passenger side for left-hand drive vehicles. It is a cylinder (which can be either metal or plastic) mounted on a bracket, with inlet and outlet pipes and an electrical connector for the heating valve (if present). Many filters have a vent valve or a drain plug at the bottom; let's place a container underneath and loosen the valve to let the diesel fuel out. We disconnect the connectors and quick-connect fittings of the pipes; remove the filter, which may be secured with a clip or a screw, then install the new filter, transferring any components and replacing the seals (all must be lubricated with new oil). We reconnect the pipes and the electrical connector. Now we need to remove the air from the system, using the hand pump or the vent valve (a small nut on the top). When only diesel fuel comes out (without bubbles), we can tighten the valve. We reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and turn on the ignition; we wait a few seconds and then let it run at idle for a few minutes.
