How to Replace the Front Brake Pads on the Opel Astra

This guide explains how to replace the front brake pads on the Opel Astra model J. Start the replacement procedure by opening the front bonnet and the brake fluid reservoir. To carry out the replacement, remove the front wheels and lift the front of the vehicle. Support the front of the car on axle stands and remove the wheels. Turn the brake disc outward and use a flathead screwdriver to lever the pad towards you and retract the piston. Disconnect the brake hose and using a 10 mm socket, remove the nut from the caliper. Remove the pads by sliding them off the disc. Clean the bracket with a wire brush to facilitate the installation of the new pad. Insert the new pads onto the bracket and refit the caliper by tightening the bolt. Use a torque wrench to tighten the nut and reconnect the brake hose. Repeat the same operation on the left brake pad. Refit both front wheels and lower the vehicle.
