Dismantling and Cleaning the EGR Valve

The EGR valve mixes some exhaust gases with intake air to reduce emissions. Contact with exhaust gases contaminated by oil and unburnt diesel can cause fouling, affecting its operation. Therefore, it can be useful to periodically clean the valve, especially during servicing. Once the valve is removed from the rear of the engine, separate the electric actuator from the valve body and clean the latter thoroughly (specific cleaners are available). In some cases, the acidity of the exhaust gases can also damage the actuator, so cleaning alone may not be sufficient.
