How does the ECO mode work in the Peugeot 308?

The ECO mode in the Peugeot 308, and in many other Peugeot models, is not a driving mode, but a battery management system that temporarily limits electrical consumption when the battery voltage falls below a certain threshold to prevent it from fully discharging. The vehicle detects that the battery is "under charge" and may not have enough energy for future starting: we may have left the audio system, lights, or ventilation on for too long with the engine off, made many short trips, or the battery may be old and weak, or external temperatures may be very low. In these cases, the system automatically disables some "non-essential" functions to save energy: it turns off the auto system, lights, and touch screen after a certain time when parked; while driving, it may decide to turn off the automatic climate control, defroster, heated seats, and other comfort functions. There is no need to worry: the system is just preventing a problem.
