A McGyver Solution for a Broken EGR Valve in the Middle of Nowhere

This is truly a McGyver solution, but it requires at least a Torx T30, a 10 mm socket, a long 13 mm socket, and pliers, along with a piece of steel and two gaskets. But McGyver never leaves home without this stuff. If you don’t have two gaskets, use just one on the intake side: better a small gas leak than a pressure loss. Remove the engine cover and the upper brace. Take off the air intake pipe and remove the nuts from the bracket and the valve screws, leaving one to hold everything in place. Pull the EGR valve back, insert the gasket, then the plate, then the other gasket and secure with the screws. Reattach the bracket, air pipe, braces, and engine cover. This is, of course, a temporary solution until you replace the EGR. By blocking the passage with a plate, the engine breathes only clean air and starts functioning again.
