How to Replace the Spark Plugs on the Peugeot MK1 1.2 Puretech

On this vehicle, a warning must be given: the spark plugs fitted are of the thin electrode type (such as the NGK 91578 which can be found on auto-doc.it with EAN code 87295815786 at a price of £13.99 each + £9.95 delivery charge). To perform the work on this car, a torque wrench is mandatory, as overtightening will strip the threads in the head (which is aluminium) and that can cause serious issues. If they are too loose, the engine will lose compression and throw errors. There is a single ignition coil for the three spark plugs: disconnect the electrical connector and remove the coil; insert the coil with the extension into the seat, then turn counterclockwise to unscrew the spark plug. Before fitting the new spark plug, clean the seat (the hole where it goes) with a cloth and some compressed air. If dirt falls into the cylinder, it’s goodbye engine. Insert the new spark plug: screw it in by hand, turning gently clockwise; if it feels stuck, you are doing it wrong! When it is hand-tightened all the way, it’s time for the torque wrench: tighten to 12 Nm, then repeat for the other two and refit the coil.
