How to Change Engine Oil and Oil Filter

This video illustrates the steps to change the oil and replace the filter on a Porsche 911. Once the car is positioned on a lift, remove the oil pan cover by unscrewing the three fastening bolts. To unscrew the pan plug, you can use either a ratchet wrench or a standard hex wrench with the aid of a combination wrench (using the ratchet wrench is recommended). Unscrew the plug and let the oil drain out (collecting it in a container). It is better to work with the engine cold. Now, loosen the plastic cover of the filter (using a ratchet wrench fitted with a cavity the size of the filter), then, once removed, you can unscrew the filter cap and let the residual oil drain out. After allowing it to drip for a few minutes, you can install the new filter. In this new filter package, you will also find the plug for the oil pan and the gasket for the plastic filter cover. Now you can screw the pan plug back in (along with its washer); also insert the new filter and its plastic cover and screw them back in. Reattach the oil pan cover. Now you can lower the lift and finally pour in the new engine oil!
