Replacing the Main Shaft Seal of the Transmission

Model: Porsche 911 996 - Years 1997-2005

Only perform this repair if you have good mechanical knowledge and the proper tools. The first step is to remove the transmission and place it on a workbench. At this point, drill the seal to a depth not exceeding 5 mm and apply a self-tapping screw: using a slide hammer puller with a claw, grip the head of the screw and remove the seal. To install the new seal, clean the seal seating thoroughly and use the appropriate centering tool to insert it correctly into its seat.
